I found these varieties and hybrids a long time ago.

But now is the time to share information about them.

Today I decided to prepare for you this review of varieties and hybrids of cucumbers that cost not 200 rubles for a pack with 3-5 seeds, but 15-20 rubles.

I’ll say right away that I grew all of these varieties in different years and had the best opinion of them.

Lately I have also become dependent on parthenocarpic hybrids.

But I have remained loyal to one of the varieties listed in the article for over 20 years.

“Rodnichok F1”

I will start with a real people’s favorite, which will help out both greenhouse and open ground lovers.

This is “Rodnichok F1” – a parthenocarpic hybrid that does not require pollination, but has an excellent yield.

The cost of a packet with 12 seeds does not exceed 20 rubles. The fruits are even, 8-10 cm long.

It bears fruit well in any year. In terms of yield, it is rarely inferior to the famous hybrids “Courage” and “German”.

But it is very demanding of the level of lighting. It prefers to grow in bright sun and does not tolerate even slight shading.

Excellent for canning in any form. Green cucumbers with black spines are just what you need for pickling and marinating.

“Zozulya F1”

Another cheap hybrid that never fails is “Zozulya F1”. Its purpose is salad, for fresh consumption. They are good in lightly salted form, and it is also good to just crunch on a fresh cucumber.

In our city, in a regular gardening store, a packet of 10 seeds costs 20 rubles. To provide a family with fresh salad cucumbers, it is enough to plant 3-4 bushes.

The yield of one bush is 7-8 kg per season. It bears fruit stably. But this hybrid should be grown in open ground or under temporary film shelters. Because it requires pollination by insects.

“April F1”

Another absolutely unpretentious and very productive cucumber for salad purposes is “Aprelskiy F1”. The cost of a packet with 12 seeds is 22 rubles.

This is a parthenocarpic hybrid that does not require pollination by bees. Therefore, it can be successfully grown in polycarbonate greenhouses.

Early ripening, with a friendly return of the harvest. Greens reach a length of 18 – 20 cm. Very tasty, sweetish, crispy, with a pronounced cucumber aroma.

This is mainly a salad cucumber. But it can also be prepared as a lightly salted one. I tried to salt it using a barrel salter. It was stored perfectly in the basement until January.

“Lukhovitsky F1”

If you try to grow “Lukhovitsky F1” at least once, you will most likely immediately understand that it is not much inferior to the newfangled expensive hybrids. These are parthenocapic cucumbers, i.e. they do not require pollination. Therefore, they give a stable harvest in any year.

It is also a hybrid of the bunch type of ovary formation. In each leaf axil, 3-4 cucumbers are formed at the same time. The yield is very high – up to 10 kg per 1 plant.

The price of this hybrid is affordable. I bought a packet of 10 seeds for 48 rubles on the weekend.

“Pickling”

And now we will go to real varieties, from which you can safely collect your seeds and in the future not depend on the whims of the producers at all. I will start with my favorite – cucumber “Pickling”. I grow it every year. 2-3 bushes. I have had my own seeds for a long time.

The variety is universal. It is good in fresh salads and in canning. Lightly salted cucumbers are ideal.

Absolutely undemanding to care and compliance with various rules of agricultural technology. This is the variety that you poke seeds into a compost heap at the end of May, and at the beginning of August you collect a bucket every other day from 2 bushes.

There is only one downside – if it is hot, you have to water it in the morning and evening. Otherwise, it starts to taste bitter.

“Nezhinsky”

Another wonderful variety that is suitable for any region. I grow it in open ground. It is not appropriate in a greenhouse at all. Because it has the ability to instantly grow vines up to 20 meters long.

And here’s the real kicker: it’s on these side shoots that numerous cucumbers with cool black pubescence and large bumps grow.

This is the variety “Nezhinsky”. It is bee-pollinated. It is super productive. But there is 1 secret. When the central stem reaches 1 meter in length, you need to pinch the top.

And that’s it. There’s no need to shape them any further. Just collect cucumbers by the bucketful, salt them by the barrelful, and enjoy this simply wonderful variety.

“Muromsky 36”

Our “HIT PARADE” today ends with the wonderful old variety “Muromsky 36”. This is an exclusively pickling cucumber.

If you grow it and try to salt it using a barrel salter, you will understand that you have never tasted truly delicious salted cucumbers before.

This is a bee-pollinated variety that should be grown exclusively in open ground. It is best to sow at the end of May directly into the ground with slightly hatched seeds. I sow on a compost heap.

And I don’t feed them with anything else during the season. I just pinch the central stem once at a height of 1.5 meters. And water them daily if there is no rain. And that’s it. And I get a ton of cucumbers from this variety every year.

And there is no need to circle around it, like around new-fangled hybrids, whose entire harvest is on the central stem. No dancing with pruning shears – no need to shape anything.

No herbal infusions, ash dressings or other nonsense. Just stick a seed in and everything grows by itself. These are the most trouble-free cucumbers I have ever seen.

Eh, I need to plant them next season. I have my own seeds hanging around somewhere.

Seed prices are racing into space like horses without a bridle.
