    1\ufe0f\u20e3  Choosing a location<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The best place is\u00a0\u00a0a sunny and open space<\/strong>\u00a0where the soil is not over-watered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Avoid placing it near trees: their roots will \u201cpull\u201d nutrients from the bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Assemble the frame from boards, pallets or timber.

    • You can lay\u00a0\u00a0agrofibre or thick film<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0– this will protect the tree from moisture from the inside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • If your budget allows, line the inside\u00a0\u00a0with galvanized iron<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0– it will last longer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      4\ufe0f\u20e3  Rodent protection and drainage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Place  a fine-mesh metal net<\/strong> on the bottom of the bed  \u2014 this will stop moles and mice.
      Put  a 10\u201315 cm drainage layer<\/strong> on top  : gravel, crushed stone, broken brick, coarse sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      5\ufe0f\u20e3  Filling the bed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Form in layers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. The bottom layer is\u00a0\u00a0coarse organic matter<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0(branches, hay, dry leaves, straw)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. The middle layer is\u00a0\u00a0compost, grass, semi-decomposed waste.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Top –\u00a0\u00a0fertile soil or garden mixture<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0(soil + humus + ash)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          • \ud83d\udca6\u00a0\u00a0Regular watering<\/strong>\u00a0is required , especially in hot weather – the soil dries out faster than in a regular garden bed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            \u2714 If you are building several beds at once, place them in rows with\u00a0\u00a0passages at least 60 cm wide<\/strong>
