In some cases, it can lead to a slow and brutal death.

This is exactly what almost happened to a horse named Astro.

Nicole Graham and her daughter were horse riding on Sunday afternoon on the beach in Geelong, Australia, near Melbourne.

But after a while the horses hit a patch of soft ground, and the ground beneath them quickly turned into a mud death trap.

Nicole helped her daughter and one of the horses out, but her own horse, Astro, got stuck in the mud.

Astro soon found himself buried up to his neck in mud and in danger of suffocation.

Nicole spent three hours by Astro’s side fighting for his life.

Every time Astro panicked even a little, he sank deeper into the mud.

The more time passed, the more desperate the situation became. It is hard to even imagine what was going on in Nicole’s head at that moment…

After three hours of struggling, Astro found himself on the verge of not only suffocation, but also death from thirst and fatigue.

To make matters worse, the tide was approaching.

Eventually, rescuers and a veterinarian arrived on the scene to provide assistance.

Since the situation was extremely difficult, rescuers began to act immediately.

To prevent Astro from using up too much energy and becoming even more panicked, the veterinarian gave him a sedative.

Nicole stayed close to her beloved horse the entire time, quietly talking to him while he received the injection.

A helicopter arrived to lift Astro out of the mud, but the horse was stuck so deep that it was impossible to attach a rope to it to lift him out.

Astro was scared and exhausted, and Nicole feared the worst. The tide was coming in, and if they didn’t get him out in time, Astro would drown.

The rescue team took a last, desperate measure: they began to dig out Astro, but the ground beneath him was too soft.

One of the rescuers compared the clay to quicksand and did not think Astro’s chances of survival were high.

Then a real savior on four wheels came to the rescue.

A local farmer came with a tractor to pull Astro out of the mud. It was a last resort, but worth a try.

And then a miracle happened – Nicole, the rescuers and the farmer managed to pull Astro out of the mud.

Nicole owns 10 horses and had never experienced anything like this before, despite riding horses on the beach many times.

This story is a reminder that it never hurts to be too careful. But most importantly, it proves that the bond between a human and a horse can work wonders!

Published by Animal Bible.
