But believe me: this pitcher of water with lemon, cucumber, and mint has become one of my little daily allies, especially when I get that craving for “something” that isn’t really hunger… but just boredom, or thirst disguised as hunger.

I make it in the morning—two minutes, I swear—and keep it close by. I look at it and it reminds me to drink. I drink it and it reminds me that I can calm that “mental” hunger with something fresh, light, and natural.

Preparation time

: 2 minutes

Recommended infusion: minimum 30 minutes in the fridge

Duration: up to 24 hours in the fridge (then it’s better to change the ingredients)

What’s in it
1.5 litres of cold water

½ lemon sliced

½ cucumber sliced thinly

a few mint leaves if I have them

(Sometimes I also add a piece of ginger, but not always.)

Just let it steep in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, but the longer it stays there, the better. After a couple of hours, it already smells lovely. The lemon releases freshness and a hint of acidity that “quenches” the cravings for something sweet, the cucumber adds that delicate, clean flavor… and no, it doesn’t taste like “salad” like I feared the first time!

Why it works (for me)
It hydrates me when I forget to drink.

It has a mild satiating effect, especially if I drink it before meals or when I’m about to open the pantry “just in case.”

Cucumber, rich in water and fiber, is also perfect for eating after drinking: crunchy, fresh, almost “snack-like.”

It’s zero calories and zero hassle.

When I drink it:
In the morning, right after waking up.

Mid-morning, when I reach for coffee more out of habit than necessity .

While working, when I feel the need for “something in my mouth.”

In the summer, practically all day.

My sincere advice:

If you’re one of those people who gets confused between hunger and thirst, or who’s looking for a natural hunger buster, try making it. It takes very little, and it might not change your life… but maybe it will save you from having another snack.

And besides, eating cucumbers is strangely satisfying in the end.
