As a key ingredient in countless dishes, it can be very convenient to always have a lush rosemary plant on your balcony.

This plant is very hardy, adapts perfectly to growing in pots, and, with a few tips, can last for years without special care. This article explains how.

Rosemary is a typical Mediterranean plant, so we shouldn’t have any particular problem adapting it to our balcony. The plant has been used in cooking for centuries, but it also has numerous therapeutic properties and was therefore used in traditional medicine.

As soon as I buy the map

If you’ve just bought a seedling, immediately transfer it to a larger pot and place it in a sunny spot: rosemary loves sunlight.

Rosemary doesn’t require specific humidity levels, as it’s a plant that adapts well to dry environments. Unlike other houseplants, it doesn’t need constant watering to prevent its leaves from drying out.

surface layer of the soil

Rosemary adapts well to any type of soil, has good roots, and even grows in stony soils. Use any soil that is low in salts (which slow the plant’s growth).

Make sure to ensure good drainage for the plant, through holes in the bottom of the pot and gravel at the bottom of the potting soil. Rosemary suffers greatly from waterlogging.

Watering

Remember that rosemary doesn’t need frequent watering. Too much water can damage the plant, so water only when you notice the soil is dry. To do this, don’t just look at the surface of the soil: try inserting a finger and observing the moisture level about 4-5 centimeters deep and water only if it’s truly dry

In the colder months, one watering per week is sufficient, while in summer, two waterings are possible.

Rosemary is one of the most widely used aromatic plants in cooking .
