If the water coming from our tap is high in limescale, it tends to clump together on surfaces in contact with the water.

Descale showers and faucets with citric acid

However, there is an effective way to remedy this: citric acid!

Citric acid not only helps keep dishwashers and washing machines clean, it’s also a great descaling agent. Let’s see how we can use it to reduce limescale and achieve a shiny, pleasant surface.

Citric acid and distilled water

The first method involves dissolving 150 grams of citric acid in one liter of deionized water (also called distilled water). Then, pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray it onto the surface you wish to clean.

As for the faucet, it’s generally best not to spray the citric acid solution directly onto it, especially if there are marble or stone surfaces around the faucet, as these surfaces can be damaged by the acid.

In this case, it is best to spray the product onto the cloth and then wipe the area with the cloth.

If it’s a shower, you can spray the solution onto the glass and let it sit for a few minutes. Then wipe it with a microfiber cloth, followed by a dry wipe with another cloth to finish the job.

White vinegar is also effective.

Regular vinegar can be very effective at making faucets shine, but it is even more effective when it comes to tarnishing steel and colored glass.

If you use it in the shower, it’s best to clean it with a microfiber cloth. If your water is hard, you can also pour a little white vinegar on the cloth and wipe the shower glass: this will give you a quick clean.

However, for a flawless job, you can pour Marseille soap flakes into a bucket with a glass of vinegar.

Here’s how to clean limescale from showers and faucets with an unknown, easy-to-find, and very effective ingredient!
