Especially since greens are quite expensive in stores these days. Why buy them when you can grow them at home without investing a penny in production?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When can I plant it?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And whenever you want, you can do it right now. But if you want to grow onions for the holidays and not be late, you should plant the bulbs for the first flush of greenery no later than 4-5 weeks before the holiday\u2014days are short in November and December, and onions don&#8217;t grow as readily as in the spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m offering you a fun way to plant onions in plastic egg crates. It takes up minimal space, and you&#8217;ll always have a practical and compact &#8220;bed&#8221; on hand, where you can easily replace the onions with fresh ones as you use them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are we doing?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stock up on plastic egg racks. Don&#8217;t throw away the lids\u2014they&#8217;ll serve as trays. You&#8217;ll also need sushi sticks and a corkscrew. I&#8217;ll explain what they&#8217;re for in a moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I use a corkscrew (the simplest one, no frills) to quickly and easily make holes in the bottoms of the cells, which, in turn, are needed to allow water to easily pass into each onion \u201chouse\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.topsovety.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/luk-v-lotkah-ot-yaic-so-shpashkami.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16418\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>So, let&#8217;s make the trellis suitable for planting:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Carefully separate the lid and container from each other.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using a hot corkscrew, we make holes in the bottom of each depression.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the base into the lid, first raising it from the edges with sticks. This prevents water from stagnating and allows the bulb roots more freedom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour water into the lid (you will have to monitor its level, adding a fresh portion from time to time).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">That&#8217;s it. The &#8220;bed&#8221; is ready. How do I choose the bulbs?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As practice shows, the best onions for growing green onions are strong, medium-sized bulbs with healthy, shiny skins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cut the tops off at the shoulders to encourage quick germination, plant the bulbs in the &#8220;houses,&#8221; and place the structure on the windowsill.
