If done right, they can stay fresh for days longer and prevent them from going bad prematurely.

Don’t put it in the refrigerator door!

We open the refrigerator door frequently, which exposes eggs to constant temperature fluctuations. This can accelerate spoilage.
It is much better to place them on a shelf with a stable temperature.

In winter, the balcony is also an option, but only if it doesn’t freeze.

Why is it important how the egg is cooked?

Pointed end down – no coincidence

There is a small air bubble at the blunt end of the egg. If the egg is stored with the pointed end down , this air layer will remain in place.

However, if stored incorrectly, the yolk can move more easily and come into contact with air, which can lead to faster spoilage.
This way, it stays in the center and stays fresher longer (at least in general).

This way the eggs stay fresh for a long time

1. Store in a separate box

Egg shells are porous and can easily absorb the odors of other foods,
so it’s best to keep them in a separate container.

2. Don’t put it next to foods with strong odors

Cheese, onions, smoked stuff… these can all affect the taste of the egg, not just the smell.

3. Constant temperature is important

Avoid wobble. A stable shelf is always a better choice than a door.

4. Don’t pre-wash it

Many people make this mistake. The eggshell has a natural protective layer (cuticle) that protects it from bacteria.
If you wash it, you remove this – and it spoils faster.

How long are eggs good for?

It usually lasts for about 25 days , but this is not a set rule. Sometimes it can go bad sooner, especially if it was stored poorly.

Can it be frozen? Yes!

If you have too many eggs:

do not freeze it whole

better mix it up

put it in an airtight container or ice cube tray

This way you can easily use it for baking and cooking later.

Storing eggs isn’t just about bringing them home and putting them in the fridge.
