The drain area should be as clear as possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the grate or filter from the sink. Remove all visible food and grease leftovers with absorbent paper. Never push them into the pipe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean the grate with hot water and detergent. If it has stuck dirt, use a small brush to reach the grooves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour a good amount of dishwashing detergent directly into the drain. This product helps loosen and emulsify part of the accumulated grease.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add baking soda slowly making sure it enters the opening. Let it act for approximately 15 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heat the water until it is very hot, but avoid using it boiling if the pipes are PVC or if you do not know the material of the installation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour the hot water slowly over the drain. Do it in several batches to allow the heat and detergent to work on the grease.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait a few minutes and open the faucet. Observe if the water begins to drain with greater speed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the drain continues slow, place the plunger over the opening. Add a small amount of water to cover the rubber edge and achieve a good seal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform firm up and down movements for 20 or 30 seconds. The pressure can displace the clog and free the duct.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the plunger and check the drainage again with hot water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the sink has two basins, completely cover the drain of the second before using the plunger. Otherwise the pressure will escape through that side.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the water circulates again, let hot water with a few drops of detergent run for one or two minutes to drag the loosened leftovers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash the sink, place the grate again and dry the edges.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips and advice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do not mix chemical cleaners with baking soda, vinegar, bleach, ammonia or other products. Some combinations can generate dangerous vapors or unexpected reactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Baking soda by itself does not dissolve a severe clog, but it can help loosen residues and reduce odors when combined with detergent and hot water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid pouring used oil directly through the sink. Let it cool and store it in a closed container to dispose of it correctly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Before washing greasy pans or trays, remove the excess with absorbent paper. This considerably reduces the amount of grease that reaches the pipes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always place a catch grate to prevent food leftovers from entering the drain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once a week let hot water with a few drops of detergent run to prevent new accumulations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not use boiling water in plastic pipes, delicate joints or old installations. Excessive heat can deform or damage some components.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the clog reappears quickly, the problem could be in the siphon.
