Exactly in this period the bushes spend the most strength on fruit formation, and any mistake can turn into small tomatoes or the appearance of late blight.

There is a simple solution that many gardeners have been using for more than one year. It helps strengthen the plants, improves fruit setting and creates less favourable conditions for the development of fungal diseases.

What is needed

For 10 liters of warm water take:

1 liter of whey;

10–15 drops of pharmaceutical iodine.

Mix everything well.

How to use correctly

Water the tomatoes at the root with 0.7–1 liter under each adult bush. It is best to do this in the evening or in cloudy weather, when the ground has already cooled a little.

Once every 10–14 days you can lightly spray the leaves with this same solution. After drying the whey forms a thin natural film that partially restrains the development of fungal spores, and iodine promotes disinfection of the plant surface.

Why this works

Whey contains lactic acid bacteria and useful compounds that help maintain the healthy state of the plants. Iodine is not a fertilizer in the usual sense, but in a small amount it is often used as an auxiliary means in tomato care.

At the same time it is important to remember: no homemade solution gives one-hundred-percent protection against late blight. If the weather is rainy and cold for a long time, it is also necessary to ensure good ventilation of the bushes, not thicken the plantings and timely remove the lower leaves.

A few minutes of care once every two weeks — and the tomatoes will reward with large, juicy fruits, and the risk of late blight appearance will become significantly smaller.

When tomatoes start filling, they need not only moisture, but also proper feeding.
