Preheat the oven to 160\u00b0C (320\u00b0F).<br>2. In a large bowl, combine all the dried fruits, nuts, spices, brandy or rum, golden syrup, vanilla extract, and optional essences. Mix well and let it soak for at least a few hours or overnight.<br>3. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>4. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each addition.<br>5. Fold in plain flour and semolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>6. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form and gently fold them into the batter.<br>7. Add the soaked fruit mixture and strawberry jam\/jelly. Mix until well combined.<br>8. Pour the batter into a greased and lined 20\u00d720 cm square baking pan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>9. Bake in the preheated oven at 160\u00b0C (320\u00b0F) for 30 minutes, then reduce the heat to 140\u00b0C (284\u00b0F) and bake for another 50-60 minutes. Cover with foil halfway through baking if needed.<br>10.
