As soon as tiny green or black insects appear on the young shoots and buds of roses, it is not worth waiting until there are even more of them. Aphids multiply very quickly, suck the juice from the plant, because of which the leaves curl, and the buds may not open at all.

If there are still few pests, a simple homemade solution that gardeners have long used will help.

What you will need:

• 1 liter of warm water; • 20–30 g of laundry or green soap; • 1 tablespoon of baking soda.

Thoroughly dissolve the soap in the water, after which add the soda and mix once more.

How to treat the roses correctly

Pour the solution into a sprayer and thoroughly wet the young shoots, the underside of the leaves and the buds. Exactly there aphids most often hide.

Carry out the treatment in the evening or in cloudy weather so that the drops do not cause burns on the leaves. If after spraying a heavy rain has passed, the procedure should be repeated.

What else will help

Do not forget to cut off strongly affected tips of the shoots. Also pay attention to ants. They often transfer aphids to new plants, so fighting anthills near the flowerbed will significantly reduce the risk of the pest reappearing.

Useful advice

Regularly examine the roses at least once every few days. If you notice aphids at the very beginning, it will be significantly easier to cope with them, and the bushes will quickly recover and again delight with abundant flowering.
