1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon red food coloring
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vinegar

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the sugar and butter together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and red food coloring.
Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture alternately with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
