🌿 Homemade pineapple: how to grow from the top in a pot

How to prepare the top for planting?

  1. Choose a ripe, but not overripe fruit with a green, juicy crown.
  2. Carefully unscrew the top from the fruit or cut it with a knife, remove the remaining pulp.
  3. Remove a few lower leaves to expose the stem.
  4. Leave the planting material to dry for 2–3 days.
  5. Place in water until roots appear (3–5 mm).
  6. Plant in a pot so that the lower leaves are above the soil. You can support it with sticks for stability.

Which place to choose?

  • pineapple loves warmth and light (from +25 °C);
  • ideal location – east or west windowsill;
  • in the summer you can take it out to the balcony or terrace;
  • In winter, keep in a bright but cooler place (not lower than +18 °C).

Pot and substrate

  • light soil for cacti with a pH of up to 7;
  • mandatory drainage layer;
  • It is better to disinfect the substrate by heating it in the oven.

Watering and fertilizing

  • water with soft or rainwater, preventing the soil from drying out;
  • in summer, spray the leaves and ensure high humidity;
  • Feed with liquid fertilizer for flowering plants: in summer – once every 2 weeks, in winter – once a month.

Care

  • remove dried leaves;
  • pineapple blooms after 3–4 years, the fruit ripens after another six months;
  • After fruiting, the mother plant dies, but leaves young shoots.

Wintering

  • temperature not lower than +18 °C;
  • maintain air humidity (spraying or humidifier).

Thus, from an ordinary fruit you will get a real decorative tree, which over time can please you with its own pineapple. 🌱🍍
