Petunia is capable of delighting with flowers for months, but only under one condition — it has enough nutrients. If the bush has become less lush, there are fewer buds, and new shoots grow more slowly, this does not mean that the plant has “finished flowering”. Most often it simply needs proper feeding.

There is one simple option that suits petunias in pots, planters and on flowerbeds well.

What to feed with

For abundant and long flowering prepare this solution:

• 10 liters of water;
• 1 tablespoon of monopotassium phosphate.

Mix well so that the fertilizer completely dissolves.

Water only on moistened soil, using approximately 300–500 ml of solution under each bush (depending on its size). Such feeding is enough to carry out once every 10–14 days.

Why exactly this works

Monopotassium phosphate contains phosphorus and potassium — elements that are especially needed by petunia during active flowering. They help the plant form new buds faster, support the brightness of the flowers and promote the growth of strong shoots.

If you regularly remove wilted flowers and seed pods, the bush will not spend strength on seed ripening and will continue to form new buds.

A few more tips

• Do not allow the soil to dry out completely, especially on hot days.
• Once every few weeks slightly shorten overly long shoots — after this the petunia quickly bushes and produces even more flowers.
• If the plant grows in a hanging planter, remember that nutrients wash out faster, so regular feedings are especially important.

A little attention, timely watering and the right fertilizer — and the petunia will for a long time look like a bright flowering ball that will decorate the yard until autumn itself.
