It seems that the kitchen range hood almost doesn’t get dirty. But as soon as you run a finger over it — a sticky, dark layer of grease remains on the surface that doesn’t want to wash off with an ordinary sponge. Over time it also collects dust, because of which the range hood looks neglected.
There is a simple way to return cleanliness to it, using what is already available in almost every kitchen.
What you will need:
- 500 ml of hot water (not boiling);
- 2 tablespoons of baking soda;
- 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent;
- 1 tablespoon of 9% vinegar.
How to prepare the solution
First dissolve the soda in the hot water. Then add the dishwashing detergent and only after that pour in the vinegar. The mixture will start to foam a little — this is a normal reaction.
How to clean correctly
Apply the solution with a sponge or pour it into a spray bottle. Thoroughly wet the dirty places and leave for 10–15 minutes. During this time the grease will start to soften.
After that wipe the surface with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. If the dirt is old, the procedure can be repeated once more. At the end wipe the range hood with a clean damp cloth, and then wipe dry.
Don’t forget about the filters
It is they that accumulate the most grease. If the filters are metal, they can be soaked for 20–30 minutes in hot water with soda and a small amount of dishwashing detergent. After that the grease is easily removed with a brush or sponge.
A little advice
To avoid spending a lot of time on general cleaning, it is enough to wipe the range hood at least once every two weeks. Fresh grease is removed much more easily than that which has accumulated for months.
A simple homemade solution will help quickly refresh the kitchen without extra costs, and the range hood will again look neat and work more efficiently.
