The scent of citronella is not only synonymous with summer, but also one of the best-known natural remedies against mosquitoes , truly annoying and unpleasant insects that, however, do not need to be killed: just keep them away in a truly effective way.
In addition to spraying a mix of distilled water and citronella essential oil in your home, you can make candles yourself that are great for this function.
By lighting them on summer evenings, they will create a delightful atmosphere and at the same time envelop the area you are in with a scented warmth that will keep mosquitoes away , because for them the aroma of citronella is more repulsive than satisfying.
Required materials
- A glass jar to recycle (like the one for jams or sauces)
- A cup of soy wax
- A candle wick
- A clothes peg
- A saucepan and a whisk
- Citronella essential oil
Procedure
- In a small saucepan, melt the soy wax flakes in a bain-marie , stirring very well.
- Once liquid, add 15 drops of citronella essential oil .
- Insert the wick into the jar, then secure it with the clothespin (keeping it balanced on the rim).

- Carefully pour the wax into the jar.
- Let it solidify for a few hours, then cut off the excess wick and light.
