Every housewife knows that over time, white linen loses its whiteness, acquiring a yellow or gray tint.
Such things no longer look so attractive, but on the contrary, they become unsightly and unkempt.
Fortunately, I am not too concerned about these issues, as I know very well how to bleach things that have turned grey or yellow.
My grandmother taught me this method.
And despite its simplicity and some naivety, grandmother’s methods of housekeeping are very relevant today.

This advice, like other grandma’s advice:
- simple;
- accessible;
- effective;
- cheap.
Grandma’s way of bleaching clothes
This is one of the cheapest methods of whitening.
But it is very effective.
And we are talking about the most common salt. The most common table salt.
Salt is often used as a preventative measure to prevent yellowing of underwear, kitchen towels or bed linen.
Prevention
For preventive purposes, approximately once a month for 2-3 hours, white items should be soaked in a warm solution of water and salt – 3 tablespoons of salt per liter of water.
And then you just need to wash the clothes as you usually do – in the washing machine.

Whitening
And the following special solution will help to whiten things that have acquired a gray or yellow tint.
Step-by-step whitening:
- Pour slightly hot water into the basin or bathtub where you plan to soak the laundry.
- dissolve three tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and salt in water;
- then add a little washing powder and a teaspoon of ammonia. Stir until the salt dissolves.
- soak white items that need to be bleached in this solution for 2 hours.
- And then wash as usual.
Things will immediately become noticeably whiter.
