All my scissors are sharper than a razor. Back in the 90s, an old dressmaker taught me to sharpen them so they would always be sharp.

It is very important not to let the scissors become completely dull, but to sharpen them all the time as a preventative measure.

You don’t have to contact a specialist for this, but you can use improvised means.

I do this with a thin needle.

This method is very effective. I take the needle and bring it to the edge of the scissors blades and sort of open the scissors with the needle, bring it to the blades opening.

This needs to be done 6-7 times and the scissors will start cutting better than before.

You can also sharpen scissors using a glass medicine bottle.

We bring the scissors to the base of the bottle neck and, just like with the needle, we open the scissors with the bottle neck.

6-7 times is enough to sharpen the blades.

All this will take you no more than a few seconds.

However, if the scissors are very dull and do not even cut paper properly, then a more serious sharpening option will be required.

To do this, you need to take fine-grained sandpaper.

We place it on a flat surface, for example, it could be glass from a photo frame, and draw the cutting edge away from us several times.

On scissors, this is where the metal has an angle, with the help of which the cutting occurs. In the process, the plane of the cutting edge must be tightly aligned with the plane of the sandpaper.

All these methods are suitable for stationery knives and tailor’s knives.

Scissors that are designed to cut paper usually have a rivet, if it is loose, they stop cutting. To do this, flatten it a little with a hammer.

But good scissors usually have a screw.

I use all of these scissors that I wrote about.

But I love this tool the most:

I bought them online. They cut fabric of any thickness and do not get dull at all.
