Add salt to orange peels and stop wasting money: they’re worth their weight in gold in the house

How can you reuse orange peels? Here’s what you can create by adding plain table salt.

For some time now, the motto for most Italian families has been simple:  save  . However, these days it’s not easy to buy  quality products  without spending a fortune. The cost of living and raw materials has risen considerably, making it increasingly difficult to manage household budgets.

There are products you can do without and others you can’t do without; among the latter are, undoubtedly, the  detergents  we use for cleaning. Household chores are essential, and satisfactory results cannot be guaranteed if unsuitable cleaning products are used simply because they are cheap. In these cases, however, it’s necessary to pay close attention because a cheap product is not necessarily synonymous with poor quality, especially when resorting to so-called ”  old wives’ tales  .”

In fact, homemade remedies have been specifically created to combine quality and savings, and in some cases, they also help  avoid unnecessary food waste  . When it comes to household cleaning, for example,  orange peel is undoubtedly a valuable ally  . Using it, you can create a fantastic natural detergent in no time.

The unexpected usefulness of orange peels

Peeling fruit and throwing away the peel is a very common habit, especially when it comes to fruits like oranges.

We often don’t stop to consider that peels might hold  hidden potential  uses. In reality, however, this is sometimes the case. In fact, orange peels can be used to create  an effective detergent for washing pots  and pans.

Internal cleaning

First, all you have to do is take a few orange peels and place them in a pot containing about a liter of water. Then, simply add two tablespoons of  table salt  and one tablespoon of  baking soda  . Mix well to combine the ingredients and turn on the stove. As soon as the water turns orange, the mixture is ready.

At this point, using a strainer,  filter  the mixture into a bowl and add 150ml of  white vinegar  and approximately 500ml of detergent. Once all the ingredients are combined, mix them thoroughly.

How to use your own laundry detergent

All the steps illustrated above show how to create approximately 1.5 liters of an effective homemade detergent which, with the help of a funnel, can be poured into convenient  bottles  . At this point, the cleaner is ready to use and is perfect for cleaning  dishes, plates, and pans  .

Crockery

This solution can remove even the most stubborn grease stains, thanks to the  degreasing action  of the combination of ingredients like baking soda and vinegar. Plus, the orange peel will leave a   very pleasant scent .
