Wasp nests are one of the most popular types of Christmas cookies. It is rare to imagine the holidays without them. They have a unique taste and look beautiful.
The cocoa shell, creamy filling and sponge cake together create a perfect harmony of flavors. Unlike other types of cookies, they are not baked and the preparation is very simple.
This is a type of candy that has a long tradition in our kitchens. Every family has its own proven recipe.
Previously, wasp nests were prepared only at Christmas, but today people prepare them throughout the year, as a sweet dessert with coffee or tea.
Dough
- 200g children’s biscuits
- 100g powdered sugar
- 100g butter
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 tablespoons rum
Cream
- 100g butter
- 50g powdered sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- a few drops of rum
To be completed
- biscuits for the bottom of the hives
- powdered sugar for sprinkling
Procedure
- In a bowl, mix the ground baby biscuits, sugar and cocoa. Add the butter and rum. Work everything well with your hands until you have a smooth and non-sticky mixture. If it is sticky, sprinkle in a little more ground biscuits.
- Beat the butter, powdered sugar and egg yolk until soft peaks form. Finally, stir in a little rum. Lightly dust the wasp nest molds with powdered sugar to prevent the dough from sticking.
- Press a little dough into the mold and make a well in the middle. Put a little cream in the well and close it with a sponge cake. Press gently to hold the sponge cake. Very carefully turn it out of the mold. Store the finished wasp nests in the refrigerator.
