One magic pill restores the shine to the gas grill: the carbon deposits come off in pieces

Over time, a thick layer of carbon deposits builds up on the gas stove grates, which resists removal with regular cleaning products. But there’s a simple and proven method that has been helping me keep my kitchen in tip-top shape for several years now.

This method works not only for cast iron grates but also for other metal items. All you need are  regular dishwasher tablets.

How to clean a grill grate in half an hour

  1. Take a large pot so that the rack fits completely in it.
  2. Pour water and place on the stove.
  3. Add  two dishwasher tablets  and bring the water to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, carefully lower the rack and let it simmer for about  30 minutes.

Once you remove the grill grate, don’t wait for it to cool—get to cleaning it straight away. Use a brush, a sponge, or even an old knife: grease and carbon deposits will come off with virtually no effort.

If the grate is large, process one half first, then turn it over and repeat the procedure.

Why does this work?

Dishwasher tablets contain active ingredients that break down grease and soften carbon deposits. When exposed to boiling water, they penetrate even the most hard-to-reach areas, and even old stains come off in layers.

After this cleaning, the grill looks like new – without any chemical smell and without unnecessary friction.

Tip:  This method also works great on baking sheets, oven racks, and metal grill grates.
