A woman from Caraş-Severin has been charged with a criminal offence after finding a piece of clothing in the rubbish. It’s not unusual to find items of clothing thrown away. But the piece of clothing the woman found had no less than 9,000 euros hidden inside.
It all happened after a woman from the town of Bocşa, in Caraş-Severin County, accidentally threw away a coat belonging to her boyfriend, who had hidden a large sum of money, 9,000 euros, in the trash. The coat was discovered by chance by another woman sorting through the waste.
The woman didn’t touch a single euro. She kept the money, thinking that after more time passed, she would be able to use it. But she found herself in trouble with the law, because the victim had filed a complaint.
“Lucky” admitted that the 9,000 euros were hers. She gave them all back, but even so, the woman ended up with a criminal case for misappropriation of found property and failure to hand it over to the authorities.
In Romania, this crime is punishable by imprisonment from one to three months, or a fine.
