A simple and effective mosquito trap you can make yourself – 5 minutes and the bloodsuckers will be gone.

The long-awaited warmth has finally arrived. It’s perfect time for outdoor trips. Clean air, barbecues, and… swarms of mosquitoes and midges.

If you don’t have any mosquito repellent on hand, or are allergic to it, there’s a great alternative: a homemade trap made from a plastic bottle. It’s very easy to make and can last up to 14 days.

You will need:

  • A plastic bottle without a lid, a 1.5 liter one is ideal
  • Warm water – 1 glass
  • Sugar – 2 tablespoons
  • Dry yeast – 1 teaspoon
  • A piece of newspaper or foil

First, cut off 1/3 of the bottle’s top and fill the bottom with warm water mixed with sugar and dry yeast. Insert the cut-off portion upside down and secure tightly with tape.

Next, wrap the entire bottle in foil or newspaper, and the trap is ready. It can be placed in corners of the room; outdoors, the effect will be less pronounced.

How does it work? Mosquitoes locate their victims by thermal radiation and exhaled carbon dioxide.

Warm water, sugar and yeast cause fermentation, which releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the environment.

Mosquitoes are attracted to this scent, are drawn inside, and are unable to escape due to the narrow opening and sticky walls. Therefore, the trap will remain active while fermentation is ongoing.
