Ingredients needed
- 8 small onions (approximately 600 g)
- 50g of breadcrumbs
- 20g of grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh chopped parsley to taste
- Olive oil or seed oil
- Ground black pepper
- Salt
Step-by-step preparation
- Prepare the onions :
Peel the small onions and cut them in half. If they are very small, you can leave them whole. Wash them and dry them well with a clean cloth. - Pre-seasoning :
Place the onions in a bowl and add a drizzle of olive or vegetable oil. Add salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley to taste. Mix well to combine the flavors. - First cooking :
Place the onions in the air fryer and cook at 160°C for 30 minutes. This step softens them and begins to lightly caramelize the outside. - Add the gratin :
Once cooked, sprinkle the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese over the onions. - Second cooking for gratinating :
Place the onions back in the air fryer and cook at 180°C for another 10 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs and cheese are golden brown and crispy.
Additional tips
- Cheese variation : If you don’t have Parmesan, you can use any grated hard cheese such as Grana Padano or Pecorino. Even a blend of cheeses can give a richer flavor.
- Aromatic touch : Add a little garlic powder or onion powder to the breadcrumbs before sprinkling for a more intense flavor.
- Presentation : Serve the onions on a platter decorated with more fresh parsley and a drizzle of raw olive oil on top.
- Spicy version : Add a pinch of ground chili or hot paprika to the breadcrumbs to give them a different touch.
These gratinéed onions are a creative way to enjoy this versatile vegetable. Thanks to the air fryer, the result is both flavorful and light.
