The first yellow spots on cucumber leaves seem like a trifle. But a few days pass — and the green tops start to lose strength, the ovaries become smaller, and the harvest no longer delights as at the beginning of summer.
Often the reason is not only the hot weather. Cucumbers quickly become exhausted during fruiting, and the leaves become more vulnerable to fungal diseases and sharp temperature changes. That is why it is worth supporting the plants with a simple natural infusion.
Onion peel infusion for healthy leaves
For preparation you will need:
• 2 large handfuls of dry onion peels; • 5 liters of water.
Bring the water to a boil, add the onion peels, boil for 3–5 minutes and leave to infuse until completely cooled. Then strain and dilute with clean water in the ratio 1:1.
Spray the leaves on both sides early in the morning or in the evening, when the sun is no longer scorching. Repeat the procedure approximately once every 7–10 days.
Why this infusion works
Onion peels contain natural phytoncides and antioxidants that help strengthen the leaves, reduce the risk of fungal problems and support the plant during heat. After regular treatments the leaves remain richly green longer, and the bushes do not age so quickly.
One more important advice
Do not water the cucumbers with cold water from a well or borehole. A sharp temperature drop weakens the root system, because of which the leaves can also turn yellow. It is best to use water that has managed to warm up in the sun.
Take care of the cucumbers in time, without waiting until half the bush turns yellow. A few minutes to prepare a simple infusion today can help the plants remain healthy and continue to delight with a generous harvest for many more weeks.
