Strong Homemade Glue That Holds No Worse Than Store-Bought: A Simple Recipe from Available Ingredients

There are situations when you need to quickly glue something, and the tube of glue turns out to be empty or simply is not at hand. In such a case an old proven method will help out, which was used long before the appearance of modern adhesive mixtures.

This glue is well suited for paper, cardboard, wood, fabric and some other porous materials. After drying it becomes quite strong and does not lose its properties for a long time.

What you will need:

  • 200 ml of water;
  • 2 tablespoons of wheat flour;
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar;
  • 1 teaspoon of table vinegar (9%).

How to prepare:

In a small bowl mix the flour with 100 ml of cold water to a homogeneous mass without lumps.

Bring the remaining water to a boil. Pour the flour mixture in a thin stream, constantly stirring. Cook on low heat for 2–3 minutes until the mass becomes thick and similar to kissel (jelly-like).

Remove from the stove, add the sugar and mix well. When the mixture cools a little, pour in the vinegar and mix once more.

After complete cooling the glue is ready for use.

How to apply correctly

Apply a thin layer of glue to a clean and dry surface, tightly press the parts to each other and leave until complete drying. For a better result you can put a small weight on top.

It is desirable to store the ready glue in a closed glass jar in the refrigerator. It is best to use it within 5–7 days.

If an even stronger composition is needed for wooden products or repair of small items, you can add a pinch of gelatin, previously dissolved in water, to the warm mixture. This will make the glue more elastic and resistant after drying.

And did you know about such a homemade recipe, or do you use only ready glue from the store?
