Many people think that after the first wave of flowering roses gradually finish the season. In reality exactly during this period new buds are being laid, and it depends on the care whether you will see another wave of luxurious flowers.
Remove everything unnecessary
First of all cut off the faded flowers. Make the cut not right under the bud, but above the first strong leaf with five leaflets. This way the plant will not spend strength on seed formation, but will start forming new shoots.
Also examine the bush and remove dry, weak or damaged twigs. This will improve ventilation and reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
Feed the roses correctly
After pruning the bushes need nutrients. At this time it is worth using fertilizers where phosphorus and potassium predominate. Exactly these help the formation of buds and make flowering more prolonged.
Nitrogen fertilizers at the end of summer are better not to apply in large quantities, because they stimulate the growth of leaves instead of flowers.
Do not forget about watering
On hot days roses need abundant but not too frequent watering. It is better to thoroughly soak the soil one or two times a week than to moisten only the top layer every day.
After watering it is desirable to loosen the ground or mulch it. This will help retain moisture longer.
Protect from diseases
If spots or powdery coating have appeared on the leaves, do not put off treatment. A healthy bush recovers faster and forms more buds.
The result will not keep you waiting
If you give the roses a little attention right now, already in a few weeks the bushes will start covering with new buds. The second wave of flowering is often no less beautiful than the first, and sometimes even surpasses it with its lushness.
Take care of the roses in time — and they will generously reward with bright flowers until autumn itself.
