Homemade Calendula-Infused Cream

This soothing, all-natural cream combines the healing properties of calendula (marigold) with moisturizing coconut oil and aloe vera.

It’s perfect for helping with skin conditions like cuts, burns, psoriasis, eczema, and dry skin.

Plus, it’s made with all-natural ingredients, so you can feel good about applying it to your skin!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup calendula-infused oil (infused with calendula flowers, or marigold flowers, known for their anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties)
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (nourishes and moisturizes the skin)
  • 1/2 ounce beeswax (helps to solidify and thicken the cream, providing a protective barrier for the skin)
  • 2/3 cup distilled water (hydrates the skin)
  • 1/3 cup aloe vera gel (soothes and cools the skin)
  • 2 drops lavender essential oil (natural preservative and promotes skin healing)

Directions:

  1. Infuse the Calendula Oil (if not already done):
    • If you haven’t made the calendula oil yet, you’ll need to infuse dried calendula flowers in a carrier oil (like olive oil or coconut oil). You can do this by placing the dried flowers in a jar, covering them with oil, and letting it sit in a warm area for 2-3 weeks, shaking it daily.
    • Alternatively, you can use pre-made calendula-infused oil if you already have it on hand.
  2. Melt the Oils and Beeswax:
    • In a double boiler, combine the calendula-infused oil, coconut oil, and beeswax. Heat gently over low heat, stirring occasionally until the beeswax is completely melted and the oils are well combined.
  3. Cool the Mixture:
    • Once the oils and beeswax have melted together, remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to cool for about 10-15 minutes. It should cool down to room temperature before proceeding to the next step.
  4. Add Water, Aloe Vera, and Essential Oil:
    • In a separate bowl, combine the distilled water and aloe vera gel. Add the lavender essential oil for natural preservation and its calming properties.
    • Slowly pour the water and aloe vera mixture into the cooled oil mixture while stirring continuously.
  5. Blend the Mixture:
    • Pour the combined mixture into a blender or food processor. Blend on high speed for 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens and becomes creamy, smooth, and white in color. The blender may struggle a bit when the mixture thickens, which is a good sign!
  6. Transfer to a Jar:
    • Once the cream has thickened, transfer it into a clean, empty jar with a tight lid. Store the cream in a cool, dry place (not in direct sunlight) for up to 1-2 months.

Usage:

  • Apply a small amount of the cream to affected areas like cuts, burns, eczema, or dry patches.
  • Massage gently into the skin until fully absorbed.

Notes:

  • Calendula Oil: If you don’t have calendula-infused oil, you can easily make it yourself by infusing dried calendula petals in any carrier oil (like olive oil) for 2-3 weeks in a warm place, shaking the jar daily.
  • Preservative: The lavender essential oil acts as a natural preservative, but it’s important to use this cream within 1-2 months.
  • Personalization: You can adjust the amount of lavender essential oil based on your preference, or use other oils like tea tree or frankincense if desired.
