Ingredients
- 200g butter cookies or other cookies of your choice
- 100g ground nuts, e.g., hazelnuts or almonds
- 150g powdered sugar
- 3-4 tbsp cocoa powder
- 100ml rum or to taste
- 100g dark chocolate (optional, for coating)
- Chocolate sprinkles, coconut flakes, or cocoa powder for rolling
Preparation
1. Crush the cookies:
- Grind the cookies: Grind the butter cookies in a food processor until finely crumbled. Alternatively, you can place them in a freezer bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
2. Prepare the dough:
- Combine the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cookie crumbs, ground nuts, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and rum. The mixture should hold together well. If it’s too dry, add a little more rum.
- Knead the dough: Knead the mixture with your hands until a pliable dough forms.
3. Form the balls:
- Form the balls: Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into balls approximately 2-3 cm in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
4. Roll:
- Roll: Roll the rum balls in chocolate sprinkles, coconut flakes, or cocoa powder, if desired, to give them a nice coating.
5. Chill:
- Chill: Chill the rum balls in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to allow them to set.
6. Optional: Chocolate coating:
- Melt the chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave.
- Coat the balls: Dip the cooled rum balls into the melted chocolate and let them cool on a wire rack or parchment paper until the chocolate has set.
Serving:
- Serving: Arrange the rum balls in a beautiful box or on a plate. Perfect for the holidays or as a sweet snack!
