Peppers Ripen Faster. We Tell What Experienced Gardeners Do for This

It would seem the bush is full of fruits, but they stubbornly remain green. Day after day passes, and the desired red, yellow or orange colour is still missing. In reality, ripening of peppers can be accelerated if you help the plant correctly distribute its strength.

Remove everything unnecessary

When on the bush there are simultaneously many small ovaries, new flowers and large fruits, the plant spends nutrients on everything at once. Experienced gardeners in this period pick off new flowers and very small ovaries. Then the pepper directs all strength to those fruits that have already formed.

Do not overload the bush

If there are too many fruits, some of them will ripen significantly longer. It is better to leave the strongest peppers, and remove the small or deformed ones. As a result the remaining fruits fill faster and acquire the characteristic colour of the variety.

Watering should be moderate

At the end of summer it is not worth flooding the beds every day. Constantly wet soil stimulates the growth of green mass, and not the ripening of fruits. Water abundantly, but only when the top layer of soil has already dried. It is best to do this with warm water.

Give the plant potassium

During the ripening period pepper responds especially well to potassium feedings. You can use wood ash infusion: mix one glass of sifted ash in 10 liters of water, leave for several hours and water approximately 0.5–1 liter under each bush on moist soil. Such feeding helps the fruits ripen faster and improves their taste.

More sun

If large leaves cover the fruits, they can be carefully removed. There is no need to cut a lot at once — a few leaves that create the greatest shade are enough. Sunlight accelerates the natural ripening of peppers.

A little secret of gardeners

As soon as one or two fruits fully ripen, they are immediately removed from the bush. The plant receives a signal that the seeds have already matured, and starts filling and colouring the other peppers faster.

A little attention at the end of the season — and very soon there will be significantly more bright, juicy and sweet fruits on the bed, ready for the table or homemade preparations.
